Throughout California local cities are increasing their minimum local city living wages.
Los Angeles: Effective July 1, 2016, Los Angeles Municipal Ordinance No. 1836128, sets a minimum wage of $10.50 per hour for employers with 26 or more employees, and provides for future increases through 2020 (set forth below) and a separate minimum wage applicable to employers with 25 or fewer employees beginning July 1, 2017.
Effective July 1, 2016, the minimum wage for all employees in the City of Los Angeles will increase from $10 an hour to $10.50. On July 1, 2017, the City of Los Angeles’ minimum hourly wage will be increased from $10.50 to $12.
On July 1, 2018, the City of Los Angeles’ minimum wage will be increased from $12 to $13.25. On July 1, 2019 the City of Los Angeles’ minimum hourly wage will be increased from $13.25 to $14.25, and on July 1, 2020 it will be $15 an hour. Businesses with less than 25 employees will have an extra year to comply. Beginning July 1, 2022, annual increases will be based on the Consumer Price Index average of the past 20 years.
Santa Monica: Effective July 1, 2016 the City of Santa Monica will have a local minimum wage of $10.50. On July 1, 2017 the local living wage increases to $12. A higher minimum wage applies to hotel workers, who will be entitled to $13.25 as of July 1, 2016 and $15.37 as of July 1, 2017.
Oakland: Effective January 1, 2016, Oakland increased its local living wage from $12.25 to $12.55 per hour.
San Francisco: Effective January 1, 2016, San Francisco increased its local living wage from $12.25 to $13.00 per hour.
Berkeley: Effective January 1, 2016, Berkeley increased its local living wage from $11.00 to $12.53 per hour.
Richmond: Effective January 1, 2016, Richmond increased its local living wage from$9.60 to $11.52 per hour. Credit toward minimum wage may be available if the employer contributes towards an employee medical benefits plan.
